Founder of Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology
Byungik Lee Ph.D.
The founder of DST, Dr. Hyechon Byungik Lee, had believed that the true spirit of enterprise would lie in the action of returning profits to society. With the belief that education was the essence of the nation’s prosperity and community development, he established an educational foundation named Sinseong Foundation and became the first Chairman of the Foundation. He found Hyechon Woman’s Middle School and High School that was affiliated with Dongbang Industrial Company. He also found Dongbang Woman’s Middle School, Dongbang High School, Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology and its affiliated Kindergarten.
Going through countless challenges and obstacles to transforman abandoned, barren land into today’s enormous comprehensive campus, the founder was inspired and empowered by his mother’s prayers and the quote "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9)," devoting his life to education work.
He poured his sweat, tears, and soul into building the beautiful campus and educational environments. With the institute founding principles of worshiping God, serving the country, and loving one's neighbors, the founder Dr. Byungik Lee worked toward two goals of fostering true Christians who devote themselves to the nation and the people and producing professionals with artisan spirits and upright personalities and dedicated his life to education. The phenomenal development of the institute would never have been possible without the grace of God, passion of the faculty, and diligence in the students.
Following the quote “The truth will set you free,” Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology will continue striving to become the vanguard of global education that keeps Christian spirit alive and serves for the country and local communities with visions of internationalization, informatization, and advancement.
